Opening an ABLEnow account is easier than you might expect. The application is entirely online, so it can be completed anytime from the comfort of home.

Many customers share that enrollment takes just a few minutes.

But for someone who has never saved in an online account or is still learning about the benefits of the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, opening an ABLE account may seem daunting.

To feel prepared, take a moment to review these three things to know before completing your ABLEnow application.

  1. Are you eligible? Individuals in all 50 states who developed disabilities before the age of 26 may be eligible to open an ABLEnow account. Take this quiz to see if you or someone you know qualifies.

  2. What information do you need? ABLEnow is committed to protecting your personal and financial information with industry-leading technology to verify your identity.

If you’re opening the account for yourself, you will need to provide your name, address, date of birth and Social Security number, among other information. Occasionally, applicants may be required to upload additional documentation such as a government-issued ID or proof of address.

If you’re opening the account for someone else as an Authorized Representative, you will need to provide information for both the eligible individual and yourself. During enrollment, those opening an account under a Legal Guardianship or Power of Attorney will be required to upload the appropriate documentation.

In addition, it’s helpful to have banking information readily available. Applicants are asked to link a bank account to easily transfer money to and from their ABLEnow account.

  3. How do you start your savings? After completing your application, you will receive a welcome email with information on accessing your new ABLE account online through the ABLEnow Consumer Portal.

If you were asked to provide additional identity or legal documentation, you will receive a separate email within three to seven business days approving your documentation or requesting more information. Once your documentation is verified, your ABLEnow account will be active.

When your account is active, you will be able to create transactions in the ABLEnow Consumer Portal to contribute and withdraw funds. You will also have the option to use your ABLEnow Card, which should arrive to the address on record within seven to ten business days of the ABLEnow account being established. Click here for additional instructions on managing your new account.

With ABLEnow, it’s never been easier to save and invest for your future. For many customers, opening an ABLE account is an important step in self-determination and financial independence. Congratulations on this milestone!
