The December episode of the VR Workforce Studio podcast focuses on how people with disabilities can use ABLEnow to overcome obstacles to independence and employment.

The free podcast is available on the VR Workforce Studio Podcast website and popular apps such as Apple Podcasts, Stitcher and more.

“I’m convinced we’re talking about one of the most important issues facing people with disabilities today, especially those who want to go to work,” says Rick Sizemore, host of the VR Workforce Studio podcast and retired director of the Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia. “When you get right down to it, there are a significant number of people with disabilities who do not go to work or get higher paying jobs because they’ll lose their benefits.”

The episode covers how an individual can move into the workforce and safeguard some of their earnings to get themselves into a stable economic position.

Listeners hear how Maya Simmons is using her ABLEnow account to complete her education and achieve her career goals to be a teacher. The podcast also includes interviews with representatives from the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) and ABLEnow.

The VR Workforce Studio podcast is produced by the Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) Foundation. One of only eight comprehensive vocational rehabilitation centers in the country, WWRC helps about 3,000 individuals with disabilities in their journey to employment each year.

Show notes and a transcript are included on the podcast website. Recent shows are formatted for radio and broadcast on the Global Impact Today network and Virginia Voice.
