In just two years, 5,000 Americans with disabilities have opened an ABLEnow account. These customers, representing all 50 states, have collectively contributed almost $20 million to their accounts – building assets for today’s needs and investing for tomorrow. For many, this is the first time they’ve been able to save money without impacting their eligibility for benefits critical to their health and well-being.

“It’s an honor to help so many achieve a level of financial independence that they could not experience before ABLEnow,” said Mary Morris, CEO of Virginia529. “Our Virginia-sponsored ABLE program has become one of the country’s leading ABLE options. With the help of advocates and partners in the disability community, we look forward to continued growth as we help thousands more dream, save and achieve with an ABLEnow account.”

Virginia was among the first states to offer a national ABLE program when ABLEnow launched in December 2016. These simple, affordable and tax-advantaged accounts allow eligible individuals to save up to $15,000 a year without endangering eligibility for certain means-tested benefit programs such as Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

To spread the word about this transformative tool for financial independence, ABLEnow invites customers to become ABLEnow Ambassadors and share how the program is making an impact in their lives. Millions of eligible Americans with disabilities have not yet opened an ABLE account, and may not even know about this important financial tool.
