ABLEnow Helps Me Help Myself

Sharon Jellish isn’t afraid to persevere toward her long-term goals. While living with spina bifida for the past 43 years, she has learned to be as independent as she can. She also knows she has to plan for her future.

Sharon has a goal to live on her own. Her family will not always be able to support her in the day-to-day. She turned to ABLEnow and put the beginnings of her plan in place by opening her own ABLE account.

In December 2016, Sharon was one of the first people in the country to open an ABLEnow account at the program’s launch celebration in Alexandria, Virginia.

“ABLEnow will help me help myself when I can no longer depend on my parents. It’s a fantastic way to save for when I need it, and it’s tax-advantaged,” said Sharon.

Currently Sharon is a legal assistant for the U.S. Department of Labor, where she has faithfully worked for the past 18 years.

When she’s not on the job, Sharon pursues all kinds of hobbies. She enjoys running, rock climbing and indoor skydiving. During her free time, Sharon also reads, plays video games and goes to the movies.

Sharon keeps her calendar full of things to do and activities to plan. As she saves money with ABLEnow, Sharon’s goal to live independently looks a little less unachievable and much more feasible. The future is something to look forward to.

“Open an ABLEnow account,” Sharon recommends. “It couldn’t hurt to save and it might help a lot.”
